Presenting tips

Slides & design

  • Start from the official template — dark for on-screen presenting, light if you prefer a brighter look or plan to print.
  • One idea per slide, at roughly one slide per minute of your slot.
  • Keep text large and high-contrast (24pt or more); prefer visuals and short phrases over paragraphs.
  • For a mixed audience, write slides in your stronger language and add key terms in the other.

Timing & delivery

  • Rehearse aloud at least once, and trim until your talk fits the slot with room for questions.
  • Open with why your topic matters to rebuilding higher education, then go deep.
  • Speak to the audience, not to the slides — the slides support you, not the other way around.
  • Close with one clear takeaway or a practical call to action.

Tech & recording

  • Join 15 minutes early to test your sound and screen sharing.
  • Use headphones in a quiet, well-lit room, with the camera at eye level.
  • Keep a PDF copy of your slides as a backup in case of connection issues.
  • Sessions are recorded and published on the recordings page — by presenting you agree to this.
